Which Are The Best Small Washing Machines?

which are the best small washing machines?
When it comes to shopping for a washing machine, size can be one of the key issues. For many people, it is about finding a machine that is big enough to meet their needs, but for others, the issue may be that they need a smaller model.

Not everyone has a home that can accommodate an 8 or 9kg model, but this does not mean that they do not want the convenience that comes with having one of these appliances. Fortunately, there are smaller machines that can be used in homes with less space.

Some people may also go for the small washing machines because they cost less, or because they have less laundry that needs to be washed. This can make the machines good value for some buyers, but there is more to consider when it comes to price. A small washing machine might be more affordable to purchase, but, if you find that you have to do twice as many loads of wash per week, it will cost you more in water and electricity. If this is the case, a larger washer might be a better value for buyers that have enough space to accommodate the unit.

While capacity is an important consideration for getting the right appliance for your home, there are other points that can make a significant difference. Obviously, you want a machine that is well made and reliable. You may also have an interest in certain features and programs. Fortunately, many of the top appliance manufacturers make compact washing machines, and you can find models that not only have all of the features and programs of the larger machines, but you can also find ones that are built to last.

Finding a washing machine for small spaces

When it comes to finding a machine that has smaller dimensions, buyers can encounter some challenges. You might be able to find a few compact washing machines, but they tend to be expensive and the washing capacity will generally be very low.

The different dimensions are fairly standard for a reason. The drum needs a certain amount of space to move in order for it to wash and spin the laundry. If you cut the space down too much in any direction, the machine will not be able to perform well.

While most machines do have pretty standard dimensions, you might be able to find a few machines in the 5 or 6kg range that are a little smaller, and this could help you to find a machine that will fit within the space that you have.

Width happens to be one of the most common problems when it comes to finding a washing machine that is the right size. Unfortunately, this is one of the areas where manufacturers have little room to compromise.

With most washing machines, the average width is about 60cm. You might be able to find a few washers at 5 or 6kg in capacity that go down to about 59cm, but if you really want a small width washing machine, it would usually mean going down to a compact model.

Washing machine height can be an issue for buyers that need to fit the machine under a worktop. If the worktop does not allow for a lot of room, then finding a machine that can fit will be a big deal. Unfortunately, this is another area where the manufacturer does not have a lot of room to manoeuvre.

The average height for most washing machines is 85cm. Finding a machine that goes down to 84.5cm shouldn’t be too difficult, but models that go lower than 84cm are pretty rare. If height is an issue, you might be able to buy a kit that cuts down the size of the washer. However, it is recommended that you have these kits fitted by a professional installer.

Depth is one area where manufacturers do have a significant amount of room to cut down the size, and this can help for people that need a little more room for the connections at the rear of the machine. The need for a slim-depth model might limit your options, but you should not have a hard time finding a machine with a reduced depth.

When it comes to depth, the average depth of a full-sized washing machine will be around 55-60cm, but you can find models that are much slimmer. Depending on the brand and where you shop, you could easily find washing machines that have a depth of less than 45cm, and that can give you a good amount of room to fit the machine when you are limited on space.

Now that you know a little bit more about small washing machine dimensions, and the size of regular washers, let’s take a look at our picks for the best small washing machines.

Since finding the right size is only one part of the shopping process, we would like to take a closer look at some of the other points before we move on to our picks for the best small washing machines. If you want more information about features and programs as well as the other points to consider when you are shopping, our washing machine buying guide can help to explain all of the issues.

Other points to consider Best Small Washing Machines

If you’ve decided that a small washer is the right fit for your home, that is a good start to the buying process, but a smart shopper will consider much more than just the size. You want to make sure that you are getting a good machine that performs well, and you want to know that it has all of the features and functions that you need. The following are a few of the more important points that can help a buyer that is trying to find the right washing machine for their home.

Pretty much any washing machine that you get is going to do a good job of cleaning your laundry, but performance does vary from one machine to the next. Beyond just the cleaning results, you may also want to consider the length of the cycle times, the spin performance and how well the machine cares for the items that you wash.

 Programs & Features

In the range of small washing machines that are available, you have a great number of features and programs that will be available. Some may have sensor wash programs, you have cycles for delicates and wool, there are economy programs, you might find special programs for things like jeans or trainers and some machines have special features for things like anti-allergy and stain removal. If you are just looking for a basic model, all of these points might be of little concern, but for some shoppers, the different features and functions can be important.

 Spin Speed

With modern machines, you can find models that have maximum spin speeds that range from 1000 -1600 rpm. The spin speed can be an indication of the spin performance. For the most part, a model with a higher maximum spin speed is going to do a better job of removing moisture from the laundry (meaning drying will be comparatively easier). That said, it is not everything when it comes to the efficiency of the spin cycle. Most washing machines will come with ratings for spin cycle efficiency, and as an additional point, you may also want to consider whether it has a variable spin speed that you can control.

 Ease of use

Having a washing machine is obviously going to make doing the laundry easier than not having one at all, but some machines are a little more user-friendly than others are. When you are comparing washers for ease of use, there are few points that can make a difference. Look at the size of the porthole and the degree to which the door swings. You also want to look at the design and style of controls.

  1. It would be good to, on a page about smaller washing machines, include their dimensions. That is my main consideration. That’s why I’m here, but these reviews are useless

  2. This page is about small washing machines. In particular the dimensions for those who have limited space. Reading the article it looked to be what I was after especially where it says’ but if you really want a small width washing machine, it would usually mean going down to a compact model’ only to carry until your five noted models. It was at this point I realised any detailed reading was futile. You have not included the dimensions of the models listed.
Defeats the object of the page!
